Openers and Responses. Openers and responses establish communication between a speaker and an addressee. Openers are vocatives if the speaker is calling for the addressee's attention, as in

`vo `molkon o.
‘Hey, Molkon!',
or interrogative greetings if the speaker and addressee encounter each other, as in
`oa·ša_ā?
‘Did you come?' (said to someone who has just arrived).
