Mumgul, land of the Mumo

Native Name: mum'o.

Other Names: manDagali (from the Pashto name for mum'oRm, originally from the name of the village of māNg'ül), "Bashgali" (from Khowar bašgali 'Nuristani; person from bašgal [the lanDai sin Valley]').

Location: the middle lānDāi s'in basin of eastern Nuristān. The native name of the country is mumg'ul.

Population: perhaps 1500.

Settlements:

Language Name: mumv'iri. Non-indigenous names include "Bashgali" (from Khowar) and "Kati" (Morgenstierne 1926).

Linguistic Position of Mumv'iri: Mumv'iri is a dialect of Kāmk'ata-viri, which forms with Vās'i-vari the Northern Group of Nuristāni languages (see the Table of Languages). Mumv'iri appears to be in basis kāt'a viri with an overlay of kāmv'iri phonetic features, plus some independent developments.
